About Marzenhale Consulting

I-90 in South Dakota. Taken by our founder, Kelly Carey, when she was an over the road driver. She realized she was the only vehicle on the road and it was beautiful.

The trucking industry has spent decades trying to solve driver turnover through recruiting incentives, pay increases, and operational changes. While these efforts can help attract drivers, they often fail to address one of the most important causes of retention problems: the quality of the relationship between drivers and company leadership, particularly dispatchers.

A positive driver-dispatcher relationship is imperative to driver retention which decreases turnover and expense for the carrier.

Marzenhale Consulting, LLC was founded to address this gap. Combining real-world trucking experience with advanced leadership education, Marzenhale Consulting helps transportation companies improve retention, organizational culture, communication, and operational effectiveness through leadership training specifically designed for the realities of the trucking industry. Our training is designed for you by a truck driver, not adapted from other industries to try to fit trucking.

About our founder and lead facilitator, Dr. Kelly Carey

Kelly Carey is the founder of Marzenhale Consulting and brings a unique blend of real-world trucking experience, leadership expertise, and academic achievement to the transportation industry. Before earning her Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership, Kelly spent four years as an over the road flatbed truck driver, hauling freight across the United States from 2011 to 2014. Those years behind the wheel provided firsthand insight into the challenges drivers face and the critical role leadership plays in creating a positive work environment.

Following her driving career, Kelly dedicated six years to leading and growing a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) training program, eventually serving as Director of Transportation at Wor-Wic Community College. During her tenure, she transformed the program into one of the region's most successful workforce initiatives, expanding enrollment, increasing revenue, and strengthening partnerships with transportation companies throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Today, Kelly serves as a business professor at Wor-Wic Community College, where she teaches marketing, organizational communication, project management, and other courses. She holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from University of Maryland Eastern Shore, a Master of Science in Management from University of Maryland Global Campus, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Salisbury University.

Kelly's doctoral research focused on the relationship between truck drivers and dispatchers and how those interactions influence driver retention and turnover. This research, combined with her experience as a driver, educator, and workforce leader, serves as the foundation of Marzenhale Consulting's mission: helping transportation companies build stronger leadership, healthier organizational cultures, and more effective driver-dispatcher relationships.

At Marzenhale Consulting, Kelly is passionate about helping carriers reduce turnover, improve communication, and create workplaces where drivers feel respected, supported, and valued. Her approach combines academic rigor with practical industry knowledge, delivering solutions designed specifically for trucking rather than adapted from other industries.

Kelly lives in Easton, MD with her wife Jean, 2 dogs, and cat.
